Fiona is cuddling with her pops, which gives me a moment to post a few items. (Yay!)

I have to confess that I'm totally grooving on "Mr. Brightside" by the Killers. Love the song; love the video. Sooo early 80s New-Romantics-ish, if kinda trashy, too). ::happiness:: Bought the song from iTunes; have not listened to/purchsed others by the band yet. I have a sneaking feeling, however, that in a few months I will be tempted to delete this entry and any record of my liking of this song. But for now, I'll just enjoy, and later I'll blame it on sleep deprivation.

I'm also thoroughly enjoying BSG. Love Kara (like many others, I gather). But I do have a question: I've missed one (or maybe two?) episodes, and while I've been able to fill in just about everything I've missed, the one thing I don't know is when the mention of Earth first came up. Was there ever a moment when someone (who?) said, "Let's try to find this place called Earth?" What was the context? Does everyone in the fleet know that's their goal? Who believes it exists? Who doesn't? Etc, etc...

And, I suppose I should also go on record as a big House fan. My favorite game is watching for "Bertie faces" every week. They're rare, but I get a kick every time I imagine I catch one.

In Fiona news, she had her one-month appointment yesterday. She's growing well (gained 2 lbs over her birth weight, grown over 2 inches). She had her first shot (the shots she got as a newborn don't count -- I didn't have to witness them) Screaming was to be expected, but the tears! Her eyes have teared up once or twice when she's been frustrated, but this was the first time tears ran down her cheeks. Poor wee mite!

(After the appt, she had her first trip to Burdick's. Didn't do much for her, but mom sure enjoyed her medicinal hot chocolate.)

If I remember correctly, Adama declared near the end of the initial miniseries that the top military command had always known about Earth and that they had some idea of where it was; he did this to give everyone hope. He was also completely making it up, as Roslin figured out. However, the lie did its job, apparently.

Ah! Thank you! That's what I get for not rewatching the mini-series. It's all coming back, in a vague sort of way.

Fiona must have imbibed some of the essence of Burdick's first by just being in the cafe for a while -- good work, getting the chocolate addiction started early. You laid a good foundation before Feb 14, but it's important to continually reinforce early on the central role chocolate should play in a person's life.

Believe me, I intend to work at this quite diligently.

1. Re the Killers -- My wife, who was of the generation that really liked Duran Duran, liked the Killers upon first listen, so I acquired the CD, and I found even I enjoy it, considering how much I hated Duran Duran. Other touchpoints I hear on the album are the Cure, the Cult, the Smiths, etc. They've got the '80s vibe down, but it's fresh enough to be original.

2. I was trying to explain to my mother that she'd seen the guy on House on various British PBS things. She professed no knowledge of Bertie and Wooster, which has me thinking she must have blocked it out for some reason. I haven't watched House yet, but during the baseball playoffs they constantly ran promos for it, which is why "YOU'RE RISKING THE PATIENT'S LIFE!" reminds me of the Red Sox. (Plus my wife got me sucked into Angel reruns, and Bertie reminds me of Wesley.)

3. Hooray for babies.

The Killers also remind me of Roxy Music and Ultravox--no musically, but with their world-weary, quasi-noir presentation. (Of course, I'm just basing that on one video, so I may be off.)

Ah, Ultravox. Their "Mr. X" and "Western Promise" fit your description well. I used to fall asleep to that album (can't remember the name, and I don't have it on CD) with my headphones on in high school, and it was a bit old then. But those violins and synthesizers. I discovered them by listening to Live Aid. I probably still have the static-filled tape recording of their set from back then, nearly 20 years ago.
