Like [livejournal.com profile] hhw, I keep thinking of little oddments to post, but then never get around to it. But, since I'm procrastinating at work on a Friday afternoon (would you like to correct typos in insurance policies?), well, that's all the inspiration I need.

Actually, the policies sometimes have their interesting bits, like the "nuclear energy liability exclusion." It's a nice little thrill to read "hazardous properties include radioactive, toxic, or explosive properties" in the middle of all the horrid legalese. One can't help wishing "hazardous properties" upon the lawyers responsible for the painfully convulted parts (ie the other 99%).

Speaking of painful reading, I finally finished "Sundial in a Grave" by Mary Gentle. The reading got a little easier as the book went along, because the protagonist gradually stopped being a jerk and an idiot. I was content to get the characters to their happy-ish ending. Gentle also provided some "what happened to them" summaries at the end, which was fun for the non-historical characters. (The historical ones I could have Googled, if I'd cared or didn't already know.) I'm always a sucker for those synopses.

Can I write a post without reporting on Fiona? Of course not. She's learned that you can use the name of the "person" you're addressing, only she goes a little overboard:

"Pickles, I want to tell you something, Pickles. Pickles, you fell in the snow." (Her expurgated version of a story [livejournal.com profile] dougmander made up.)

"Mummy, how was your day today, Mummy?"

Also, she likes to watch Warcraft. (We don't do any fighting in front of her.) Her favorite thing is to see our druid characters turn into cats and then go swimming. "One, two, three, SPLASH!"
